Booking a Centre
All four Centres (Kilve Court, The Outdoor Centre, Great Wood and Charterhouse) are very popular. To enquire about availability, please contact our central office and we will be happy to discuss any options we have. Details about each Centre are available from the 'Our 4 Centres' link in the menu bar on the right of the page.

Activities Available
The activities on offer at Kilve Court Education Centres are governed by the Somerset County Council LEA’s “Play Safe” document and, where appropriate, licensed by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority. Appropriately trained or qualified instructors are provided for all activities.

Beach Visit:
A visit to Kilve Beach to observe the rock formations in the cliff face, to hunt for fossils, to look at the marine life in the rock pools.
East Quantoxhead Village and Beach walk:
A walk down to the beach - along the beach, hunting for fossils as you go - walk into the village and see how time has stood still - back across the fields to Kilve.

Walks take 2 x 1¼ hour sessions

Art Packages:
Colour Matching:
The students make close colour studies of the flora in Kilve Court Grounds and produce small individual samples that are then placed all together to form a large landscape painting.
Drawing with Charcoal:
A) The group explore charcoal and it’s qualities and then use it to create mass, tone and mood - a great experience for all students.
B) Making drawings from our surroundings we study how to transfer what we see into meaningful work by studying line and tone.
From Pencil to Stencil:
Observational drawings are made by the group, who then cut a stencil each, print it individually and onto a larger piece of paper to create a group work, incorporating colours and patterns of Kilve Court.
Shadow & Shade:
A) The students collect natural found objects from Kilve grounds and we proceed to make relief prints of these: all students can do this, it is simple and extremely effective.
B) The group draw in the grounds of Kilve Court, observing the shadows and shade and where the light is coming from: these studies can be done in pencil and monochrome and mounted on to one large piece of work for display.
Willow Sculpture:
Make your own sculpture. The children will create their own sculptures out of willow and be able to take them back to school to display.

Art packages take 2 x 1¼ hour sessions.

Scale of Charges:

All Centres offer two main types of courses; fully tailor made to meet your exact requirements or alternatively our SPECIALS.

For the fullest range of options available to you, please see the activities listed above and choose those you would most like to do. Then contact our main office and we will discuss all your course needs with you and give you a variety of costs depending on different itineraries.

Our SPECIALS offer a more fixed timetable of activities and are only available at certain times of year (this is reflected in their price). Please contact the main office for further details.

Charges include all accommodation, food and tuition (where appropriate).

Note:

  • Staff and other adults accompanying the group will be free of charge in the ratio 1 free to every complete 10 paying students. Additional persons will be calculated at the ‘accompanying staff rate’ and this charge will include all meals.
  • Visiting students need to bring a sleeping bag or duvet, bottom sheet, pillowcase and towel(s). However, visiting staff will have their beds prepared by Kilve Court.
  • All booking forms must be returned by the due date in order to retain the booking offer.
  • A DEPOSIT of £250 will be invoiced upon receipt of a signed booking form. Please note that deposits are no longer retained for any shortfall in numbers, however, it is important that you are as accurate as possible with your student estimates as this effects the activity programme, and possibly other groups who may be sharing the centre.
